Midwifery Diploma/ degree registered with the relevant entities i.e. MoPH/MoHE. Bachelor’s degree in Midwifery will be preferred. Basic life support (BLS) provider Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics (ALSO) provider Medication certification module for RMs
Peripheral intravenous cannulation (PIVC)
Ability to carry out basic obstetrics/gynecological/ and neonatal assessment. Identify manage and competent in dealing with antenatal postnatal and gynecology patients. Knowledgeable and competent to deal with newborn provide safe care. Demonstrate knowledge and skill regarding proper use of unit relevant equipment and their safe handling. Ability to organize workload and identify priorities appropriately. Good communication and interpersonal skills and ability to build rapport with team members. Ability to cope with stressful situations. Ability to work with health care team and contribute ideas and solutions to resolve problems.
Duties & Responsibilities
The ideal candidate would be able to:
Diagnose pregnancy and perform antenatal history and examination.
Monitor normal pregnancies; carry out the examinations necessary for the monitoring of the development of normal pregnancies
Give the necessary supervision care and advice to women during pregnancy labour and the postpartum period.
Identify and monitor stages of labour.
Perform history and physical examination of the labouring woman and diagnose labour.
Provide care and assist mother during labour and to monitor the condition of the fetus in utero by the appropriate clinical and technical means.
Manage labour using the partograph.
Post-natal care :
Perform postpartum assessment(s) of mother according to the obstetrics principles.
Treat postpartum hemorrhage (including manual removal of placenta and injection oxytocic).
Provide immediate post-partum care including history taking physical examination (voiding after 4-6 hours of vaginal delivery uterine contraction fundal height etc.) teaching on breast feeding and care of newborn.
Counsel on breastfeeding and provide nutritional support to woman.
Provide hygiene care to all patients as per defined policy.
Conduct uncomplicated and spontaneous deliveries including where required an episiotomy.
Recognize the warning signs of abnormality in the mother or infant which necessitate referral to a doctor and to assist the latter where appropriate.
Provide immediate newborn care with a focus on airway warmth and breastfeeding.
Put complete and correct identification band of the mother.
Conduct thorough head to toe assessment of a newborn.
Draw blood samples and send to lab with proper identification.
Provide routine newborn care including physical examination care of the umbilical cord immunization etc
