Afghanistan Institute of Banking and Finance ( AIBF )

BackgroundThe Afghanistan Institute of Banking and Finance (hereafter “Institute”) is a not-for-profit organization operating under the auspices of Da Afghanistan Bank (Afghanistan’s Central Bank), Afghanistan Banks Association, and Microfinance Investment Support Facility for Afghanistan. The mission of the Institute is to provide education, training, research, and thought leadership to Afghanistan’s financial community consistent with global best practices.
The banking sector in Afghanistan has developed tremendously over the last decade with 15 commercial banks now operating in Afghanistan. Although skills and general education regarding banking and finance has improved substantially during the last five years; however, still there is a lot of work to do in terms of capacity building. Both new recruits and existing staff require training in banking fundamentals and skill upgrading.Over the past three years, the Institute has provided various training courses for commercial banks and microfinance organizations in addition to training from other sources.
The end result is that, even the Institute, training played a substantial role and to most extent meets the growing needs for access to capital through banking and microfinance. Furthermore, the Institute has been working for years to provide world-class training and education in banking and finance. At present, this effort is focused on the development of the AIBF Integrated Curriculum to provide thorough and modern training to entry-level employees, mid-level bank employees, and to senior management of banks, plus programs to meet specialized training needs.
