The purpose of the anticipated US Agency for International Development (USAID)-funded Assistance to Legislative Bodies of Afghanistan (ALBA) is to support the development of the Afghan Parliament to enable it to operate as an independent and effective legislative, representative, and oversight body. The project, which began 28 March 2013, will be for a four-year period, with the possibility of a fifth-year extension.
The three components of the program are: Legislative Support; Oversight; and Public Outreach.  All three components will contribute to the sustainable institutional development of the Afghan Parliament. All three components have been identified by the Parliament as the key areas of need.
