The aim of the US Agency for International Development (USAID) Assistance to Legislative Bodies of Afghanistan (ALBA) is to support the development of the Afghan Parliament to enable it to operate as an independent and effective legislative, representative, and oversight body. The project, which began 28 March 2013, will be for a four-year period, with the possibility of a fifth-year extension.

The four components of the program are: Strengthening Legislative Processes; Improved Oversight; Increased Outreach; and, Increased Institutional Development.  All four components will contribute to the sustainable institutional development of the Afghan Parliament, and all four components have been identified by the Parliament as the key areas of need.
