The European Union and its 28 Member States are major donors in supporting the development of a stable and prosperous Afghanistan. Together the European nations invest more than 1 billion € a year in Afghanistan. The EU's development activities in Afghanistan are focused on four areas: "Agriculture and Rural Development", "Health", "Policing and Rule of Law" and "Democratisation and Accountability". The most important recipients of our development aid are the Afghan people, to whom we are committed through a long-term partnership. We established our office in Kabul in February 2002 and our current plans extents to 2020
