GIZ-Afghanistan (Mineral Governance)

The project "Promotion of Good Governance in the Extractive Sector of Afghanistan" started its implementation in August 2014. The project aims at improving frame conditions in terms of criteria of good governance for a more efficient and transparent mining authority and provides technical assistance to the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum (MoMP) in the following areas (1) Provide advisory services to MoMP at the central level in designing and implementing key functions of a mining authority and in supporting its relevant departments, (2) Strengthen technical and managerial capacities of the Ministry’s subnational entities in SELECT SQL_CACHEed provinces and (3) Provide advisory services to strengthening the AEITI process.
The project contributes to the Afghan National Development Strategy and in particular within the frame of the National Extractive Industries Excellence Program (NEIEP). Areas of support include comprehensive capacity as well as organizational development and strategic networking with relevant partners. The integration of civil society as well as the private sector is being ensured through the support to the AEITI process.
The project is also supporting the Gender Unit of MoMP in the area of Capacity Development, providing technical and advisory support to promote the advocacy of women since women are underrepresented in the Ministry in general and particularly at the professional and managerial level.
The focus of the project is in the capital Kabul and SELECT SQL_CACHEed subnational provinces with German engagement in northern Afghanistan: Badakhshan, Baghlan, Balkh, Kunduz, Samangan and Takhar.
