Established in August 2002, the Welfare Association for the Development of Afghanistan (WADAN) is an indigenous NGO that envisions a peaceful, educated, drug free, democratic, developed and prosperous Afghanistan. Our mission is to advance the spread of democratic principles, development, social justice, human rights, and freedom; and to strengthen communities and local governance by promoting effective community and institutional development practices and drug control initiatives. Registered with the Government of Afghanistan and a member of the Afghan NGOs Coordination Bureau (ANCB), and the Agency Coordinating Body for Afghan Relief (ACBAR), in cooperation and coordination with line ministries, CSO’s and other stakeholders we undertake community and institutional development, civic education, and education and drug control initiatives. Based in Kabul, with more than 2,000 full time staff members, we have offices in Badakhshan, Farah, Ghazni, Helmand, Herat, Kandahar, Khost, Kunduz, Logar, Maidan-Wardak, Nangarhar, Paktia, Uruzgan and Zabul Provinces which also cover adjacent districts and provinces. The Drug Demand Reduction is one of WADAN’s largest efforts. The program is provisioning awareness and treatment services on drugs and Substance Use Disorders to patients, their families, and respective communities. WADAN has been actively involved in implementing several drug treatment and awareness projects in different parts of Afghanistan since 2002.
