About you 

To be successful in this role you must have:

  • Secondary education
  • 1-2 years of experience in working with rural communities, with humanitarian/ early recovery interventions;
  • Working experience with International humanitarian NGO is preferable;
  • Experience working in complex and rural contexts;
  • Sound understanding of the humanitarian context, humanitarian needs, as well as knowledge of Sphere shelter guidelines (ideally also ECHO Afghanistan Shelter Guidelines);
  • English is an asset, but no requirement;
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
Duties & Responsibilities

About the job 



Under the direct supervision of the Shelter Engineer, the Shelter Assistant is part of the shelter team in Central Province and is responsible to ensure that approved shelter guidelines are followed and adopted, and that work is carried out in close cooperation with local authorities and local communities.



In this position, you will be responsible for the following;



  • Facilitation of beneficiary agreements regarding construction of shelters;

  • Planning of, and regular monitoring of shelter construction activities;

  • Supporting Shelter Engineer in provision of trainings to target beneficiaries regarding DRR, mitigation measures (resilient features) and Build Back Better (BBB) approach according to the shelter guidelines;

  • With support from Shelter Engineer ensuring assistance and guidance to target beneficiaries and that adopted shelter design is implemented and DRR measures are considered during shelter construction;

  • Liaise and collaborate with relevant local communities, authorities and other key stakeholders at district and provincial level;

  • Any other tasks as assigned by supervisor.
