Minimum Bachelor degree in social science (e.g. anthropology, sociology, political science, peace/conflict, international relations or development studies) or related discipline (e.g., media, law)
Minimum three years of relevant working experience in research at a professional level desired; experience managing teams of field staff desirable;
Research experience (drafting research and policy papers, conducting assessments, data collection tools development, and managing project staff/researchers, etc.) desirable;
Knowledge of qualitative analytical and research methods; additional knowledge of quantitative methods considered an advantage; knowledge of primary field research considered an asset.
In-depth understanding of the social, institutional, and political environment in Afghanistan, including an understanding of local power structures considered a strong advantage;
Strong communication and writing skills in English, including ability to draft reports;
Professional writing and speaking skill in English Language, and fluent speaking and writing skills of national languages (Dari and Pashto) is required.
Duties & Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of TLO Research Coordinator and SLSD Provincial Coordinators the Research Officer will be responsible to lead on conducting context and conflict monitoring and reporting, action research to improve institutional learning during project planning and implementation, support Research Coordinator in research methodology development, implementation of research activities related to SLSD Project, preparing interview guideline, lead on data collection, cleaning, analysis, and reports drafting.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Provincial Research Officers will be responsible to conduct context and conflict assessments on semi-annual and annual basis, and internal evaluation for strategic inputs to guide SLSD Project team for improvement of SLSD project.
Assist Research Coordinator in setting up and coordinating research component of the project , including: developing research design, daily data Collection, data entry, cleaning data, follow up interviews and data analysis;
Contribute in research literature related topics and desk research review
Contribute in research methodology development, implementation of research projects, and product delivery, including interview guideline and report structures;
Travel to rural communities in targeted districts of Paktia and Khost provinces to conduct semi-structured interviews and focus group discussions with relevant stakeholders
Lead on collected data cleaning, management, and control in the targeted districts
Drafting semi-annual and annual context and conflict research papers, and internal evaluation reports based on collected and analyzed data;
Present context and conflicts, and internal evaluation finding to SLSD Project Advisory Board and Steering Committee.
Any other tasks assigned by Research Coordinator and SLSD Project Manager.
