Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering /Water Resources Engineering with at least four years’ experience in design of watershed related structures and irrigation infrastructures (lining of canal check dams flow measurement structure siphons culverts construction of terracing courting flood control levee etc.). Preference would be given to candidates with a Master Degree in relevant field or to the candidates having extensive experience in similar regions. The incumbent will be based within Project Implementation Office (PIO) in Takhar/Kunduz. Familiar with use of Microsoft office package and employing relevant engineering software such as Auto CAD Civil 3D Excel Google Earth GIS Clime Watt and Crop WATT etc. Should be fluent in English and other local languages
Duties & Responsibilities
The Irrigation Design Engineer will have the overall responsibility to guide technical surveyors in topographic survey of command area cross-sectional and longitudinal surveys of the irrigation schemes. She/he is also responsible for the designs of all irrigation related infrastructure and has to work with a team of engineer on-farm water management engineer consultant and technicians involved in designing extending existing watershed systems repairing maintaining and constructing watershed related structures at project site. She/he will report to watershed management team leader/watershed manager and will be responsible for the following tasks.
Design of various irrigation structures as per need in close coordination of survey team;
Assist in the preparation of guidelines for surveyor’s activities in gathering field data required in the design of watershed and water control structures;
Check survey drawings submitted by surveyors and ensure that these accurately reflect site conditions;
Investigate proposed locations of structures (check dams protection wall terraces/trench culvert etc.) and prepare initial designs in coordination with line DAIL LKISP and other stakeholders;
Prepare and verify watershed structure’s layout and ensure suitability with field conditions;
Conduct detailed survey of structures whenever required;
Draft detailed drawings of watershed and other irrigation structures;
Review of drawings prior to submission to LKISP;
Prepare all design calculations beside reports of structures; whenever required;
Prepare facilities specifications and design criteria;
Document all designs for future repair and maintenance work of watershed and other relevant structures;
Search for available topographical data (maps GIS Google Earth) of watershed;
Finalize list of selected projects based on the selection criteria in close coordination with provincial Irrigation Directorate;
Prepare community mobilization plan and human resources plan for community mobilization while keeping in mind the resources are not duplicated;
Prepare annual work and budget plan for the community-based irrigation projects as per the project development objectives;
In coordination with provincial irrigation department identify and facilitate the required trainings for the Forest Management Association (FMA) to support newly established FMA’s in implementation operation and maintenance as well as irrigated agriculture;
Travel to the sites wherever and whenever required;
Check and verification of all site plans profiles designs and cost estimation of the complete watershed projects including all protection infrastructures e.g protection wall check dams terraces/trench culverts weirs etc.; and
Any other task assigned by watershed team leader.
