Work Experience:Significant teaching experience in western higher Years

  • Ph.D. in Political Science Public Administration or Public Policy (or other closely related subjects) from an accredited university.

  • Significant teaching experience in western higher education and evidence of excellence in university teaching.

  • Excellent oral and written English skills.

  • Publications and/or other evidence of professional engagement.

  • Experience teaching in international multicultural settings preferred.

  • Demonstrate a strong sense of values and ethics consistent with the mandate of the American University of Afghanistan.

  • Demonstrated experience with learning management systems such as Canvas Moodle or Blackboard.

  • Fluency in Farsi/Dari is desirable.

  • If hired the successful applicant is expected to provide official proof of academic degrees (transcripts sent from the degree granting school directly to AUAF).

Duties & Responsibilities

This adjunct faculty appointment is a non-tenure-track faculty position to join the pool of SSH Division adjuncts. Teaching responsibilities may include both introductory and upper-level undergraduate courses depending on the teaching needs of the SSH Division.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Adjunct faculty members are contracted fulfil the roles and responsibilities described in the Faculty Handbook and university policies and procedures that detail specific faculty duties. Major responsibilities are listed below.

The base contract period refers to an academic semester including possible pre- and post-semester faculty workshops. The contractual period extends from one week before the start of the semester to one day after end of the semester.

Teaching and Mentoring

  • Teach undergraduate courses in Political Science and/or Public Administration mostly at introductory but also possibly at advanced levels.

  • Commitment to advising and monitoring undergraduate students registered in the class (es) taught.

  • Evaluating student work and assessing student learning outcomes.

  • Hold regular office hours and work with individual students acting as academic mentor.

  • Remain engaged and current in the academic profession and in their disciplines.

University Service:

  • When relevant and upon invitation by the SSH Chair attend faculty meetings.

  • Contribute on a punctual basis to the curriculum development and designing of upper level courses in Public Administration for undergraduate Student as well as contributing to the development of Master’s in Public Policy program.
