  • Teen to fifteen (10 to 15) years of experience in the related field and experience in working with communities and Monitoring and evaluations of the NRM projects.

  • University degree in Agriculture Veterinary or other relevant academic disciplines

  • Very good English and excellent Pashto and Dari (spoken and written)

  • Good analytical and decision making skills familiarity with southeast region and understanding the local context.

  • Good skills in MS Office Package and Internet applications

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate with local communities and project team.

  • Punctual and hardworking desire to meet deadlines and serve rural communities.

  •  Regular trips to targeted districts and villages

Duties & Responsibilities


The SLSD Phase 3 project Agriculture and Livestock Specialist will lead on the design and conducting technical capacity assessment of the smallholder farmers need assessment of resources poor smallholders review of SLSD Phase 2 activities supporting vulnerable families and value chain analysis of selected horticulture products to enhance productivity of resource poor smallholder farmers’ income generation activities.

Additionally the Agriculture and Livestock Specialist will lead on design and implementation of the planned interventions and coordination of his/her activities with relevant stakeholders.

He/she duty station will be in Paktia and Khost province (50% Paktia and 50% Khost) and supervise two Agriculture & Horticulture Officers and Livestock Officers based in Paktia and Khost provinces.

He/she will work under the supervision of the Project Manager and in close coordination with Provincial Coordinator Technical Consultant.


Duties and responsibilities:


The agriculture and livestock specialist will lead on pathway 1(Productivity of Resource-Poor Small holder Farmer’s Income Generation Activities Enhanced) completely and horticulture productivity of pathway 3(Productivity of Small Holder Farmers Land-Based Agriculture Improved) of the SLSD Phase 3 Theory of Change and supervise a team of 4 officers based in Paktia and Khost provinces.

Lead on institutional capacity assessment of small holder farmers technical capacity assessment of the smallholder farmers and need assessment of resource poor smallholders.

Lead on projects design with rural communities and authorities in the areas of horticulture and livestock management and improve market linkages.

Lead on planned interventions concept and technical proposal development.

Lead on technical aspects coordination and collaboration with DAIL and MRRD departments

Work with extension workers and farmers on Integrated Pest Management (IMP) post-harvest handling (harvest sorting and packing) improving agri-business value chain.

Training of extension workers and targeted farmers in new agricultural practices and techniques especially for subjects related to orchards nurseries and mother stock nurseries greenhouses and agri-business.

Introduce new technologies/ practices (orchard establishment nurseries establishment orchard management intercropping irrigation system and agribusiness development)

Lead on improving the value chain of local horticulture products.

Produce activities progress reports as well as work plans for the implementations of planned activities on monthly semi-annual and annual basis.

Work with M&E and Reporting Officer to insure project baseline and end line assessment are conducted data compiled and analyzed for effective project reporting at the output and outcome levels.

Perform any other task assigned by the Project Manager and ENRMM Coordinator.
