Minimum Required Qualifications



Degree in Food Technology Biological or Chemical Science or related field required.

Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree with 5 years’ industry experience required.

Knowledge of food safety food manufacturing processes technologies Good Manufacturing Practices Sanitation Pest Control and HACCP ISO 22000/ISO 2008 systems.

Experience in food safety training to individuals or small groups

Should have conducted complete food safety site inspection

Sound report writing with good interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal).

Troubleshooting data analysis and investigative skills required.



 



Preferred Qualifications



At least 5 years of prior experience working in a related technical field i.e. food safety food manufacturing processes

Experience working with other donor-funded agricultural development programs;

Possessing a network of acquaintances within agribusinesses in RADP-E target provinces.



 



Conditions of Work Requirements



Work and living facilities are in high security zones with frequent security drills and protocols and limited access to medical facilities. General work environment and living quarters requires ability to walk numerous flights of stairs on a daily basis. Security protocols require the individual in this position to be able to quickly climb multiple flights of stairs while wearing 30 lbs. of personal protective equipment walk swiftly or run across uneven terrain without assistance and enter and exit project vehicles without assistance.

Duties & Responsibilities

Purpose



Based on lessons learned from the first two years of project implementation that most of production companies in the targeted provinces are not complying with the food safety and standards requirements therefore the incumbent is responsible for supporting RADP-E grantees and beneficiaries to comply with the food safety and quality processes and procedures.  The person in this role will monitor and identify incomplete or missing requirements as measured against audit criteria and provide required guidance.



 



The Food Safety Specialist will be based in the RADP-E Kabul Office and will work under the supervision of Value Chain Manager and will coordinate regularly with the Value Chain Leads and Specialists. The Food Safety Specialist will be responsible for traveling to the eight RADP-E targeted provinces (Kabul Parwan Kapisa Logar Wardak Ghazni Laghman and Nangarhar) to support RADP-E grantees/beneficiaries establishing food safety procedure policies as well as assist food production companies to obtain food safety standard certifications to comply with food safety requirements of national/international markets.



 



 



Objective and Duties



Provides technical and decision-making support to value chain manager related to food safety issues of the food production companies.

Conduct site inspections and HACCP ISO GMP and GAP pre-audits of food processing and wholesaling facilities

Observe food preparation handling storage and transportation processes of agribusinesses and identify Critical Control Points (CCPs) and non-compliances issues with HACCP ISO GMP and GAP standard principles

Assists agribusinesses to send their product samples for ISO 17025 Accredited Lab Testing

Provide/facilitate HACCP and other international certification standards classroom and on-site training

Work with Applicants/Grantees to smoothly implement food safety related activities under RADP-E and Grantee contribution.

Develop/Facilitate HACCP and other international certification Standards Operating Procedures (SOPs) and develop plans for obtaining actual Certification

Collaborates and provides technical advice to appropriate functions and employees of agribusiness to assure food safety and quality products.

Execute appropriate inspection criteria for food production companies (RADP-E grantee/beneficiaries) to determine degree of compliance.



Incumbent must be able to work under direct or indirect supervision
