Work Experience: Master’s with 5 or bachelor’s with 7 Years
  • Demonstrated successful track record managing grants programs in high-risk and remote management environments
  • Demonstrated experience in and knowledge of USAID grants modalities and requirements
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt grants making into larger project strategic goals effectively
  • Experience reviewing and negotiating budgets drafting memoranda of negotiation conducting pre-award responsibility assessments and tracking spending strongly preferred
  • Ability to work in a professional and cordial manner with fellow staff members partner institutions and stakeholders
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision to prioritize multiple work assignments in an extremely fast-paced environment to meet deadlines and to exercise good professional judgment that reflects positively on the image and communicates the established program message 
  • Excellent written and oral English

Duties & Responsibilities

The Grants Director will work closely with the technical team and Chief of Party to design and develop all grants for the Women’s Economic Development and Women’s Empowerment and Civil Society programs.

  • Provides leadership in the design and development of grants (in coordination with the COP Technical team leads procurement team and all other relevant staff) to ensure activities are feasible achievable within current capacity and comply with all relevant policies and procedures.
  • Leads the analysis of grant budgets and cost estimates for reasonableness and consistency; sets up the financial monitoring of grant activities; oversees the implementation of grant agreements; and manages the closeout of the grant agreement 
  • Provides training and capacity building to grantees as needed in key processes
  • Leads trainings and informational sessions for grantee organizations on applications processes
  • Oversees grant implementation and monitoring of schedule budget and performance
  • Oversees rapid response mechanism for accurate quick deployment of grants
  • Ensures grant implementation is conducted in compliance with all relevant requirements and donor regulations and follow up as needed regarding grant policy guidance and interpretation
  • Provides regular/weekly updates on grants implementation and anticipates and troubleshoots grant implementation challenges with others on the program team 
  • Manages and is accountable for staff who : Maintain complete and updated grant files in both digital and hard copy format. Prepare monthly financial projections and actively tracks the clearance and disbursement rates of grant activities. Prepare and maintains supporting grant documentation in compliance with all applicable requirements procedures and best practices. Create and maintain the ‘Grant Status’ database for on-demand grant outflow assessment
  • With other team members assures all grantees are appropriately assessed and if remediation is required this is documented and addressed 
  • Establishes grant criteria and is in compliance with criteria for all applications
  • Collaborates with MEL manager and team in the design of MEL plans and their execution
  • Understands and is in alignment at all times with project objectives and indicators
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor
