Duties & Responsibilities

Medair is implementing an integrated IMAM EPI and IYCF project in Kandahar Province. Medair’s health and nutrition project seeks to address the inadequate coverage and quality of life-saving services for the treatment of common illnesses EPI Services and acute malnutrition in children under five years.

The programme also addresses some of the key determinants of malnutrition through promotion of improved IYCF practices and healthy behaviours linked to unnecessary deaths amongst vulnerable populations.  This project is being implemented in Kandahar City as well as districts.


To work as part of a mobile nutrition team covering multiple sites

To accurately screen children under 5 and pregnant and lactating women following national guidelines and procedures

To ensure accurate record keeping of all activities following the provided data collection templates

To ensure safe storage and handling of the stock



  • Screen children under 5 for malnutrition using MUAC weight and height and checking for oedema and calculate z-scores

  • Assist the Health & Nutrition Nurse in screening pregnant and lactating women as required

  • Assist the Health & Nutrition Nurse in screening/History taking of children under 5 years as require

  • Assist the nurse in identifying pregnant and lactating women and care takers that require Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) counselling and refer to the appropriate person

  • Participate in giving nutrition health and hygiene education to the beneficiaries and care takers in individual and group sessions if required and in accordance with agreed messages

  • Assist the vaccinator during the vaccinations of children under 5 years as require

  • Support the nurses in record keeping and distribution of Medicines and supplies to beneficiaries

Quality Management

  • Ensure adherence to the provided protocols and guidelines

  • Ensure accurate record keeping of all nutrition activities filling in forms cards registration books and tally sheets as required

  • Compile reports as required

  • Ensure anthropometric equipment is handled carefully and regularly checked for accuracy


  • Ensure safe storage and handling of all food products medicines and medical material and equipment

  • Assist in distributing medicines food products to the beneficiaries if required and keep accurate records of stock movements according to the organization’s protocols

  • Assist the Health &Nutrition Supervisor in preparing stock requests
