Degree in Mechanical Agricultural or Industrial Engineering or related degree.
Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree with 5 years’ of relevant experience in mechanical agricultural or industrial engineering in/out of Afghanistan.
Ability to travel to the following provinces Wardak Logar Parwan Kapsia Ghazni Nangarhar Laghman and districts of Kabul.
Demonstrated experience in working with electrical machineries agricultural food industries firm processing design and layouts.
Knowledge of all major Microsoft processing programs (Microsoft Word Excel Power Point).
English language proficiency
Experience working with other donor funded agriculture development programs.
Possessing a network of acquaintances within agribusinesses in RADP-E target provinces;
CONDITIONS OF WORK REQUIREMENTS
Work and living facilities are in high security zones with frequent security drills and protocols and limited access to medical facilities. General work environment and living quarters requires ability to walk numerous flights of stairs on a daily basis. Security protocols require the individual in this position to be able to quickly climb multiple flights of stairs while wearing 30 lbs. of personal protective equipment walk swiftly or run across uneven terrain without assistance and enter and exit project vehicles without assistance.

Duties & Responsibilities
The Mechanical Engineer based in RADP-E Kabul Office will work under the supervision of Value Chain Manager and will coordinate regularly with the Value Chain Leads and Specialists. The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for traveling to the eight RADP-E targeted provinces (Kabul Parwan Kapisa Logar Wardak Ghazni Laghman and Nangarhar). He/she should provide support to value chain team in new technology (machinery) selection (apricot dairy poultry and tomato) provide technical engineering support to grantees for utilizing new technologies and provide inputs in regards to each new technology introduced to the RADP-E clients. The Mechanical Engineer will support value chain team in the grant implementation and collecting data from different resources in regards to new- technologies in agriculture sector working alongside with Procurement and M&E teams of RADP-E to coordinate the administrative and operational needs associated with technical activities.
OBJECTIVE AND DUTIES
Provides feasibility of purposed new technologies cost analyses of purposed equipment (new technology/machinery) new technology selection and onsite installation.
Provides engineering design support quality assurance training and direction on new installations and existing processes.
Provides oversight to Value Chain Manager /Leads as necessary to ensure sound decisions for new technology selection.
Drives continuous improvement to overall quality efficiency processes and cost reduction initiatives by collaborating with RADP-E grantees.
Providing engineering support on an as-needed basis regularly reporting granted equipment status and following up with facility team leaders on cost reduction/process improvement ideas.
Provide support to grantees in developing temperature/humidity control calculations airflow diagrams pressurization plans and classification plans.
Establishes clearly defined objectives and parameters prior to implementation and then compiles and analyzes operational test and research data to establish performance standards for newly designed or modified equipment.
Assist the RADP-E technical team and grantees with mechanical drawings of processing layouts including heating cooling ventilation and air condition and power supply system (electricity fuel and gas).
Coordinate activities with cross cutting team and other internal and external team members (e.g. vendors clients and contractors).
Develop and maintain a data bank system of new-agriculture equipment and serves as an engineering resource for RADP-E’s grantees.
Communicate effectively verbally and in writing with RADP-E personnel clients vendors suppliers and other business related contacts.
Conduct market research to identify machineries abased on applications
Prepare understand and interpret engineering construction plans specifications and other contract documents.
Able to work daily and extended hours as necessary.
Able to travel to all RADP-E targeted provinces/districts and change schedule as required.
Maintain a high level of confidentiality related to all duties and responsibilities such as the proprietary information of vendors and customers.
Strong background in unit operation design installation and operation with an emphasis on troubleshooting. Unit operations can include both wet and dry processing equipment such as pumps heat exchangers water extraction methods; spray drying bulk powder transport sizing and packaging.
Strong ability to apply applications of engineering principles and practices to solve specific problems in a timely manner.
Knowledge of manufacturing costs associated with implementing engineering designs and equipment and the ability to prepare written reports.
Understand process and product testing procedures of food production processing and packaging equipment.
Familiar with regulations and codes involving electrical construction as well as food safety GMP and HAACP.
Understanding of electrical controls and power distribution pneumatics pumps hydraulics heat transfer and pressure applied theory.
Ability to modify and adapt equipment/machinery to advance product processes from theory to application.
Ability to operate all necessary office equipment and software required to accomplish job duties such as computers Excel Word data collection equipment.
