A Bachelor degree in Horticulture / Agriculture or related discipline from recognized university with minimum 2 years of relevant experience.
Proven recent experience in On-Farm Water-Use management / irrigation lay-outs, designs of irrigation methods in Afghanistan
Experience in sustainable water management of orchards and vineyards planted with temperate / sub-tropical crops like Almonds Apricots, Apples, Pomegranate, Grapes, etc
Familiar with water flow computing techniques, field water measurement and soil moisture characteristics
Fluency in local languages,
Proven communication, translation and reporting skills in English language – well familiar with Microsoft programs and internet
Capacity enhancement skills – teaching experience using the Farmer Field School methodology will be an asset
Duties & Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of the National Horticulture Coordinator and overall supervision of the Project Director and close collaboration of the International Water Specialist The On Farm Water Use Officer will be responsible for:
Provide training and field support to NHLP’s Extension Team regarding irrigation lay-outs, sustainable water management / conservational practices and optimum water use for horticulture crops / irrigation programs according to agreed plans and timelines for increased production
In coordination with the On-farm Water-Use Specialist, provide technical advice to Extension Staff in workshops and in the field on crop water requirement, irrigation scheduling, soil moisture conservation, irrigation methods and plant water needs in relation to agro-climatic conditions
In collaboration with other technical components, ensure the integration of various water use programs into an overall “Orchard Management Systems” best suited to existing crops
Coordinate with other relevant MAIL projects such as OFWMP and other NGOs, Projects active in the project area.
Coordination and work closely with OFWM units of DAIL Offices for the purpose of sharing information and capacity building.
Strong emphasis will be put on practical field-work (appr. 2 weeks / month).
