  1. BBA or equivalent degree with five years of experience however master degree is preferred.

  2. Demonstrated experience in the preparation of Value Chain Analyses Business Plans and Market Assessments.  Be prepared to provide examples of your works.

  3. Private sector business or own business experience will be an advantage.

  4. agriculture market development/ value chain development;

  5. Strong team leadership and management experience with demonstrated competence in managing teams under complex donor-funded program;

  6. A good understanding of M&E reporting and data gathering tools important; Excellent communication skills; including report-writing presentation networking and facilitation skills;

  7. Excellence in reading writing and speaking in English language with native fluency in Dari/Pashto.

Duties & Responsibilities

The Senior Business Development Specialist (SBDS) serves as a Manager to oversee all activities related to providing Business Development Services (BDS) to program beneficiaries.  This SBDS will lead a team of junior advisors by guiding them while providing quality assistance to various businesses associations and groups to a goal of facilitating market systems forming linkages increasing incomes and sustainable business development for men and women. 

We are seeking applications only from highly experienced technical and managerial experts for this role.  The SBDS will be required to interpret the objectives of the project work plan and present creative approaches to the development sustainable agribusinesses in the Grape Melon and Dried Fruit and Nut value chains.  A firm understanding of the local markets and the challenges facing agribusiness in the North and Northeast of Afghanistan is essential. The SBDS will be responsible for ensuring the effective delivery of all program outputs as well as overall management of the program staff by demonstrating prior experience relating to the bulleted list below:

Duties & Responsibilities:

  1. Leading efforts to develop and implement innovative activities aimed at strengthening agricultural development and the private sector;

  2. Leading the BDS program strategy to facilitate appropriate interventions for the development of targeted market systems for the different regions and value chains as required;

  3. Work closely with the Regional Implementation Manager (RIM) and Team Leader to develop comprehensive action plans to assist prospects within program goals that may include market assessments value chain analyses business plans budgeting and cash flow training marketing and sales plans cost accounting training and any other related assistance that will achieve the program goals.

  4. Mentor train and manage BDS specialists who will be working with you in the bullets above.

  5. Maintain regular reporting of communications with clients and disseminate with program team and RIM.

  6. Experience in addressing gender inequality and promoting women entrepreneurship and employment would be an added advantage;

  7. Make field visits in six provinces to prospect for businesses and/or associations who will become clients of the program.

  8. Collaborate effectively with key stakeholders and partners to strengthen program participation.

  9. Guiding team to gather data for effective monitoring and evaluation plans;

  10. Compile quarterly reports on changes in the market place and include latest finding derived from information collected by the Business Development (BD) team.

  11. Ensuring quality of the program delivery through mentoring the BD team by providing feedback on their performance as well as areas for improvement;

  12. With substantial support from the Administrative and Technical team ensuring all project finances and management practices are in compliance with ACDI/VOCA and USAID contractual rules and regulations;

  13. Guide short-term technical assistance required by the program;

  14. Overseeing delivery of key reports and work-plans;

  15. Conduct yourself with honestly and integrity during office hours and after while always keeping the program goals and objectives in the forefront.
