The Principal Duties and Tasks of the Senior Communications Specialist include:
Research fact check and compile information for bi-weekly monthly quarterly and ad hoc reports that highlight the project’s progress in accordance with USAID expectations.
Assist in the design and publication of fact sheets brochures and other information updates produced in softcopy (where you will operate Publisher or similar creative software) or hardcopy.
Provide written translation of documents from English to Dari or Pashto and vice versa which include but not limited to official correspondence periodic reports manuals and brochures.
Provide spoken translation from English to Pashto or Dari and vice versa at GRAIN meetings conferences training sessions press briefings and other GRAIN events and activities as required.
Draft stories supporting GRAIN’s digital outreach efforts including website Facebook and Twitter.
Ensure accurate implementation of GRAIN’s Branding and Marking strategy across all activities.
Responsible for taking photographs of GRAIN events and maintaining accurate files of project images through GRAIN’s PhotoBank image library maintained on Dropbox or alternative backup.
Participate in planning and organizing events workshops and conferences ensuring activities are successfully presented in the most professional manner.
Maintain accurate organized files ensuring data back up to enable easy access of past records which includes uploading files to GRAIN’s Teamwork project management portal.
Coordinate with venders (eg. printing or audio visual needs) securing quotes as required.
Ensure that activity implementation is in accordance with USAID rules and regulations and GRAIN/MSU policies and procedures.
Maintain the highest ethical co-worker and stakeholder relationships to ensure positive cooperative and professional relationship development and collaborative productivity.
Perform other related duties as may be assigned or requested.
Bachelor’s degree (or foreign equivalent) in business administration public administration or similar field;
Minimum 8 years experience as a translator/interpreter working on international projects;
Excellent language proficiency in spoken and written English Dari and Pashto.
Comprehensive social media insight and experience video production and information technology understanding;
Experience traveling independently to the field researching and collecting written and image based reporting materials for use in periodical reports such as quarterly success stories and fact sheets;
USAID project experience preferred;
Ability to work in a collaborative multi-cultural multi-ethnic environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity and gender;
Possess the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines and be flexible and willing to perform other duties and work irregular hours as requested.
Proficient in Microsoft Office including Excel Outlook PowerPoint and Word.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills ability to work with all levels and functions within GRAIN its stakeholders ministries and donor.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team readily accept responsibility and maintain confidentiality of information.
Undertake other duties and tasks as assigned by Director of Communications.
The Senior Communications Specialist is under the supervision of the Communication Manager and reports to the Communications Director.

The Senior Communications Specialist under the supervision of the Communications Manager and reporting to the Communications Director is a versatile role that provides the highest quality communications output and technical program support (including spoken and written translation) to contribute to the development and timely submission of deliverables that include but not limited to donor information requirements. S/he will form part of GRAIN’s communications unit which researches and gathers wide ranging reporting materials that are utilized in the compilation of various periodical reporting that conform to USAID rules and regulations. The Senior Communications Specialist will be required to interact widely with team members in Kabul and GRAIN regional officers be responsible for developing multimedia presentations coordinating project events and be available to travel to GRAIN’s regional offices in Afghanistan.
This position is based in the GRAIN Project Office in Kabul and available only to national applicants.
