An advanced university degree (Masters or equivalent) in education social sciences development studies or related area
Qualifications / skills in curriculum development is desirable.
At least seven years of relevant work experience with at least five years acquired with an international organization in the field of education
A deep understanding of development work particularly of capacity development in education
Previous working experience in education in the government or international development cooperation sector.
Excellent understanding of all aspects of education
Excellent project management skills including implementation monitoring and evaluation
Considerable relationship and influencing skills to manage and interact with a wide range of high–level partners
Significant sensitivity and adaptability (cultural gender religion race and nationality)
Excellent leadership skills including leading people strategic analytical and problem-solving skills
Excellent communication skills including writing and oral expression
Highly competent computer and other IT skills
Excellent independent working skills with a desire for life-long learning;
Knowledge of programming policies and procedures in international development cooperation in particular in the UN.
Fluency in English Dari and Pashto is an essential requirement.
Conditions of work
The consultant will be provided with secure office space by UNESCO while in Kabul including equipment office stationaries printing photocopying and communication equipment.
The Program Officer Curriculum Reform will perform the following duties:
Support the UNESCO Education Unit in all aspects of planning implementation coordination and monitoring of curriculum reform activities including the provision of high-quality technical inputs;
Build and sustain effective close working partnerships with government counterparts and other partners through active sharing of information and knowledge to facilitate program implementation and build capacity of counterparts to achieve and sustain results on the program activities;
Support international experts engaged for curriculum reform including through the development and preparation of workshop materials in Dari/Pashto;
Facilitate good working relationships with the Ministry of Education coordinate and liaise with the General Directorate of Curriculum (GDC) and the Curriculum Working Group;
Provide research and analysis support as required to support the curriculum reform program;
Contribute to the operation of relevant working groups convened to support program implementation including by providing technical support and advice;
Support the organization and coordination of seminars national conferences consultation meetings and missions and contribute to the development/preparing related materials/documentations required;
Contribute to identifying and sharing lessons learned for improvement of the program activities knowledge development and capacity development of counterparts;
Provide input into and assist in the implementation of program work plans;
Provide technical translation support where required. This may include materials required for training and consultation workshops and translation of technical feedback provided in Dari/Pashto;
Carry out other administrative duties relating to the curriculum activities as and when required; and
Conduct any other duties assigned by the Chief of Education.
