Senior Child Protection Officer

QUALIFICATION EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

Essential

A relevant bachelor’s degree in education psychology social sciences or a closely related field;

 At least 5 years’ experience in work focusing on children’s rights and protection issues.

 Knowledge of child rights child protection and child participation and case management or counseling

 Proven competence in using participatory/interactive methods in working with children in difficult circumstances;

 Good communication interpersonal and negotiation skills.

 Good working knowledge (spoken and written) of English and Pashtu/Dari Language.

 Skills in report writing.

 Ability to manage a project

 Extensive experience as a trainer using participatory methodology.

 Experience in undertaking training needs assessment

 Experience in developing training materials

 Politically and culturally sensitive awareness of gender issues with qualities of patience tact and diplomacy

 Ability to work independently and as a member of a  team;

 A willingness to work as part of a team in a complex and sometimes insecure environment.

 A preparedness to work in uncertain security environments.

 Computer literate (word processing spreadsheets email).

 Commitment to the vision mission and goals of SC.

 Commitment to SC Child Protection Policy

 Experience in working with an International organization for at least 2 years;

 Good sense of humor and flexibility

Desirable

Experience of translating materials from English to Pashtu and Dari

Experience in MHPSS child participation and community participation

Familiar with other computer programs (Ms. Access Photoshop etc)

Additional job responsibilities

Job Purpose

The Child Protection Senior Officer is responsible for coordinating and managing the Peace and Recovery project which is going to be implemented in Jawzjan/Sari pul  Province. And s/he is responsible to establish and maintain a good relationship with all stakeholders in the targeted province and its districts overseeing the implementation of Child Protection activities and service provision for vulnerable and at-risk children adolescents and families.

Key Accountabilities

Day to day management of the project including high quality and timely activity implementation in full coordination of SCI - CP coordinator at the province level.

Provide technical follow up and monitoring to all training and workshops conducted to ensure the sustainability and impacts of the activities.

Adapt and develop child-friendly tools and training materials suitable for local context in key skill areas relating to child rights protection case management and child participation.

Ensure training for all Save the Children staff on Child Protection and child safeguarding policy the Code of Conduct is implemented and that staff complete all mandatory training on time.

Compile and generate the training reports conducted in the province.

Regular coordination across SC programs and thematic areas ensuring a high level of integration and collaboration when need and where possible.

Support the development of partnerships between adults and children enabling girls and boys participation in governance structures (e.g. Shura CPAN and Save the Children program and policy developments).

Assist in translation of key training material which currently in English into Pashtu/Dari (e.g. child rights case management and working with child survivors)

Work closely with Save the Children program teams including other sectors to adapt or develop applicable materials on child rights child protection participation health & nutrition education child and youth resilience environmental protection etc. that are suitable for the local context and culture.

 document document evaluate and share experiences and lessons learned for purposes of institutional learning

Work closely with the Save the Children program teams to inform policy developments on child rights protection and participation.

Ensuring high-quality service are provided through CFS CBCPNs in targeted communities

Provide consistent supervision coaching and technical support for staff on case management and facilitation of group sessions including case conferencing.

Adhere to and report any child safeguarding concerns in accordance with Save the Children’s Child Safeguarding Policy to the relevant CSG focal point.

Any other relevant task assigned by the line manager and technical team

Write monthly quarterly and annual reports of the project.

Staff Supervisions

Work with senior staff to train new personnel as needed

Monitor and support training efforts undertaken staffs

Support guidance to child protection officers in supervising children’s groups facilitators and child facilitators

Review training needs for all project areas

Arrange for procurement of supplies needed for capacity building activities

Ensure that all projects are equipped with MEAL systems like quality benchmarks  billboards  posters to exhibit MEAL messages for activities 

Ensure action plans from quality monitoring and accountability systems are generated and implemented in a timely manner collaboration with MEAL team

Report project outputs against M&E Plan 

Ensure that data and information is available for projects at the field as per the M&E Plan
